Brooklyn Flea

Last weekend, Dan took me to the Brooklyn Flea… which was heavenly.

I had the biggest smile on my face the whole day, and was so inspired by all of the artists there.

Brooklyn Flea

I met a couple Etsy artists, whose work I am a fan of (which was very exciting)!

I of course loved looking through all of the records and vintage pieces. It was seriously the greatest day!

What I got:

  • Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits record (gift from Dan)
  • A vintage brooch (I’m bringing the brooch back)
  • A Brooklyn screen-printed burnout tank (Loved this artist’s designs)

I definitely plan on going back… especially when it is outdoors for the spring!

Simone Becchetti Photography

At risk of seeming completely arrogant and self-absorbed…

I wanted to share some photographs taken by the incredibly talented Italian photographer, Simone Becchetti.

It was a lot of fun, and though I’m used to being the one taking the photos, I really enjoyed the experience!

Here are some of the photos! You can check out Simone’s photography at http://www.simonebecchetti.it. He also is a contributing photographer on istockphoto, under the username SimmiSimons.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

Of Monsters & Men: Secret Concert

Just a few weeks ago, I went to Of Monsters and Men‘s “secret concert”; part of Intel and MTV’s Music Experiment.  The show was themed.  Probably the greatest theme possible.  The greatest.

1930s cirque! (gasp! applause!)

It was held in the breathtaking Angel Orensanz Center, New York’s oldest surviving synagogue.  The venue was perfectly lit, and the open bar wasn’t too shabby, either.  It wound up being the greatest concert experience I’ve had to date!

WATCH!: “Your Bones” live at the show! You can see Kristen and I for a couple quick seconds! (“quick” being the operative word)

Below: Instagram photos from Music Experiment’s website.

My photos from the night:

I hope everyone is having a great week!
I can’t wait to celebrate my birthday (early) with some friends tomorrow night!

All Smiles!

Not only is today my highest number of views to date!!! (Thank you, thank you to everyone who visits my blog!)

… But alsooo,

I just found out that I have been listed on “50 WordPress-Based Photography Blogs I Encourage You to Visit” on TomSlatin.com!
#12 on the list! So cool!

I am so flattered, and have a huge smile on my face!  Big ol’ goofy smile!

Today is a great day.

All Things Wonderful

OH, HEY!

Last weekend I roamed around with my Hassie in the gorgeous weather, taking some shots here and there.
I went to see the current exhibits at the ICP Museum, which made me realize how much I want to get back into my photography.  The exhibits were really incredible, and I suggest you go check em out. (All but Weegee come down May 6th, so head over there soon!)

The exhibits on display as of right now are:

Weegee: Murder Is My Business
The Loving Story: Photographs by Grey Villet
Perspectives 2012: Anna Shteynshleyger, Greg Girard, Chien-Chi Chang
Magnum Contact Sheets
… I will be writing a post with more on these exhibits soon! ; )

After the museum, I wound up at Harrison and Kristen’s apartment (my brother and his girlfriend) where Harrison and our friend Eric were stringing up some lights on their spectacular terrace! (But really, it’s spectacular.)
They are hosting a Cinco De Mayo party on their terrace on Saturday, and I can’t wait!

I decided to do a series of diptychs for these photos… ya know, just changing it up!

Enjoy –

I went back to visit Syracuse this past weekend for Mayfest (the greatest college experience known to mankind, that actually takes place in April) and I had an amazing time.  Went up with the greatest of friends, and got to see lots of people that I missed SO much.
There have been lots of transitions since I graduated last year, so going back and being around so many people that make me so unbelievably happy was… Euphoric.

I am definitely going through withdrawal right now, missing college, but I definitely have some exciting things to look forward to! (Visiting my friend Anchal next weekend being one of them! YAY!)

I hope you all have been healthy and well… perhaps snapping some photos, also?!

Pablove Foundation: Shutterbugs Program

Hey guys!

I wanted to share some information about the wonderful nonprofit organization that I interned/volunteered for this summer that I am very passionate about!

(Aside from the excerpt taken from their website, these are all my own words and insight on the program.  This is not coming from the organization itself! However I am writing this in the hopes of making more people aware of what Pablove and Pablove Shutterbugs do to help those affected by childhood cancer.)

A brief description of The Pablove Foundation is below (taken from their website).  More information can be seen at Pablove.org.

“The mission of The Pablove Foundation is to fund pediatric cancer research and advances in treatment, educate and empower cancer families, and improve the quality of life for children living with cancer through hospital play, music and arts programs.
The Pablove Foundation is named after Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, the son of Jo Ann Thrailkill and Jeff Castelaz and the little brother of Grady Gallagher. Pablo was six years old when he lost his valiant yearlong battle with bilateral Wilms Tumor, a rare form of childhood cancer. Imbued with his spirit and inspired by his strength, Pablove is dedicated to the daily, global fight against childhood cancer and the suffering that comes in its wake.
We fight on in order to amplify one simple message: kids get cancer too.” (Pablove.org)

From holding Wilms Tumor Symposiums to their signature charity bike ride, Pablove Across America, The Pablove Foundation continues to not only raise awareness about childhood cancer, but to provide support for families affected by it.

________________________________________

The Pablove Shutterbugs program was cofounded by Catherine Berclaz and Jo Ann Thrailkill in 2010.  Catherine had developed a unique program designed for children with cancer to learn photography in a hospital setting, and after reconnecting with Jo Ann, they decided to join forces.  The sole mission of the Shutterbugs Program is to provide a creative outlet for the children in which they may express themselves in a truly unique program that works around their treatment.

My time working with Pablove Shutterbugs was nothing short of unbelievably rewarding, incredibly touching, and truly life-changing. Working with Cath and the children, and all of the incredible volunteers made me realize just how passionate I am about helping these children and their families in any way possible, even if just putting a smile on their faces, and making a difference.  I have been inspired to start my own non-profit organization in the future, and hope to volunteer as a mentor in the Shutterbugs program this year.

Please check out the Pablove Shutterbugs Gallery page to see the children’s wonderful work, and read a bit more about the program.  If after learning more about the program you feel just as passionate about it as I do, donating is a great way to help support the cause. Or, you can volunteer, and help out directly!
